What is the
Coordinating Committee for Change (CCC)?
The CCC is a working group of SIUC faculty, staff, students,
and community members that formed last November in response to Chancellor Carlo
Montemagno’s restructuring proposal for the Carbondale campus of SIU. The aims of
the Committee are to gather data, conduct research, exchange information, and
promote an inclusive community dialogue about the best ways to bring positive
and constructive change to our campus.
How was the CCC
formed? How is it organized and what does it do?
The CCC took shape out of a community meeting held on the
SIUC’s campus on October 25, 2017 organized in response to the Chancellor’s
restructuring proposal. All meeting attendees were invited to continue meeting
to discuss the restructuring proposal, and the CCC emerged organically out of
that invitation. Currently, the CCC is organized into four working groups
devoted to principles of change, research gathering, campus outreach, and
community outreach. We have a blog spot at cccsiuc.blogspot, and we are also
conducting a survey to assess community support for the Chancellor’s plan. The
results of the survey will be made available in mid-February and can be
accessed here: tinyurl.com/SIUCsurvey.
Is the CCC an
opposition group?
No. Not everyone involved in the CCC is opposed to all
aspects of the Chancellor’s proposal, and not everyone opposed to the
Chancellor’s proposal is in the CCC. All members of the CCC agree, however,
that any campus restructuring process needs to be inclusive and based on
principles of shared governance. And it is fair to say that most CCC members
have specific questions about the proposal that the Chancellor has not
adequately answered, at least as of this writing.
What is the
relationship between the CCC and the Faculty Association and constituency
groups on campus?
The CCC is an independent working group that has no formal
affiliation with the Faculty Association or any other constituency groups on
campus. Of course, some people involved in the CCC are also involved in other
organizations, including the FA, the GPSC, and the USG. But the CCC is an
autonomous group.
How can I learn more
about the CCC and get involved?
Thanks for asking. To learn more about the CCC, shoot us an
email at cccsiuc@gmail.com and visit our
blog spot at cccsiucblogspot.com. The future of SIUC will be decided in the
coming months, so now is the time to get involved.
